Described as 'The Regency' writing stand this fully hallmarked Silver stand with matching dip pen was made by Carrs siversmiths of Sheffield.
The pen, surround, and bottle top are fully hallmarked in Sheffield as Silver with a 1995 date code and the 'R.C' maker's mark for Ronald Carr. the bottle top is very lightly and elegantly engraved with the initials 'E.J.W. The base is made from a rich brown coloured wood with a felt base.
The pen is 15.5 cm. in length, again hallmarked Silver, with an inset floral pattern matching that on the surround. The nib which appears to be gold plated, has a fine point and a responsive flex.
Using a dip pen effectively does require some practice and a little patience but the experience of using such a high quality ink stand and pen is, in itself, very rewarding. The results from a skilled hand, not mine, I hasten to add, can be spectacular.
Carrs of Sheffield is still a successful and highly regarded specialist silversmith company producing Silver goods of the highest quality. The inkstand was only made in relatively small numbers and is extremely hard to find.
